Instructions

Let’s brainstorm! Let your creative juices flow by just writing down any idea that comes to your mind as you complete the instructions below.

  1. Write down sources of frustration, disappointment, and discomfort that you have noticed or experienced. The following list might help you generate some ideas:
    • Complaints people have or gripes you hear from friends or people in the community.
    • Inconvenience experienced when purchasing a product or in acquiring a service.
    • A product or service “flaw” that is difficult to deal with, such as packaging that takes way too much time to unravel.
    • The pain that comes from paying way too much (i.e., getting “ripped off”) for a product or service.
    • Money that seems to be “lost” with little value returned.
  2. Write down some opportunities that fill any kind of need or list your dream ideas. The following list might help you generate some ideas:
    • Something that can make life easier.
    • A product or service that can contribute to health or well-being (literally removing pain of one kind or another).
    • A simpler way to access a product or service (less hassle).
    • Dreams that you’ve had as a child.
    • Successful businesses around you, maybe one that you feel you could do a better job with.
    • Hobbies and activities that people invest a lot of time and resources into.
    • Businesses or services that need simplification.

  3. Look at your brainstormed list of pain points and opportunities and come up with a business that solves each problem or exploits the opportunity.
  4. Narrow your list down to your 40 best ideas for a business/company; 20 for your $100.00 Challenge, and 20 for your Big Idea.
    • Remember, your $100 Challenge ideas will be something on a smaller scale.
    • Your Big Idea, or dream business ideas, will be a on a larger scale.
      • Many of these ideas will require more funding and eventually hiring people.
    • Your list of business ideas will differ between the types of businesses.
      • For example, a $100.00 Challenge idea may be a lemonade stand, while a Big Idea may be to open a small software company.
  5. Open a new document and record your ideas.
    • Group the 20 ideas for each list, for a total of 40 ideas.
    • Label each group with an appropriate heading.
  6. Save and submit your list.
